Default Help W/ Yellow Cherry Tomato

I tried my first yellow cherry this year. I am growing 'Lemon Drop' from seed from Seed Savers Exchange.

The flavor is not good. Production is low compared to my other tom's.

Any advice on a good yellow cherry for next year?

Galinas is always good. But I like to raise Tommy Toe Yellow every year because it has that deep flavor that is complete and reminds me of larger red tomatoes. It is also good in salads and adds that other color to please the eye.

I have only tried Ildi so far, but as long a it doesn't get too much water, it is very flavourful, on the sweet side and produces lots. Ildi is a " multiflora" variety, abd I got trusses of mors than 20 at a time all summer long.

The Regina's Yellow I know is a large typical gold/red bicolor:

Robert Richardon, noted in theabove link was a good friend of mine and I got my seeds from him.

And the correct spelling really is Regina, not Rejina.

Several of you have mentioned the variety Dr. Carolyn, which was not named by me, so I thought I'd give a bit of background on it since Tania didn't include the whole story,

http://tatianastomatobase.com/wiki/Dr._Carolyn

When seeds of Galina's Yellow first became available Craig L ( nctomatoman) and I bought all the ones that had been brought back from Siberia including this one, split the seeds in eack pack and I grew it.

I love it, a PL variety with gold cherries and would always include this one in yellow cherries to be grown.

I saved seeds, put out several plants and got individual plants that had red and pink and salmon and white cherries. At the same time Steve Draper, then in UT, also was getting individual plants, I don't remember the colors, and asked me to send him seeds of what I thought was the best one, and that was the white cherry one, which clearly had some genes in it from Galina's and was wonderfully flavored,

When the next SSE Yearbook came out there was something called Dr, Carolyn, which certainly surprised me that Steve had did that and never told me he was going to do it.

As with so many ivory white varieties, regardless of size, color is determined by the degree of foliage cover, darker colored fruits in the south due to high UV intensity, etc., and with Dr. Carolyn I also saw that as fruits got riper sometimes the fruits had a yellowish tinge to them.

The whitest white I've ever grown is the variety White Queen, not a cherry, first introduced by the Earl May Co in 1941.

Carolyn, and there's Dr. Carolyn Pink as well.

I agree. And as we talked about earlier, I wonder if they might be the same variety. I have them planted side by side this year to see if I can tell any difference.

Cole, mine are side-by-side too. With you in mind. I found another one to think about. Huan U or Topaz. I found this a few hours ago. It is called by both names. http://www.rareseeds.com/topaz-or-huan-u/

I'm going through a huge stack of catalogs and learning about different tomato varieties. I'm adding Huan U to my wish list.

There's also a Mini Yellow, AKA Russian Mini Yellow, that is a nice small yellow cherry on a large, rampant plant. I like Dr. Carolyn, but I also like Lemon Drop, so there it is.
