Default Anyone else get zapped by heat this weekend?

Here in Southern California we had a nice temperature spike on Saturday. We've been rolling along in the 70s for weeks now then boom, 93 degrees! Needless to say the plants weren't happy about that. Drying up from an over-water, they were already a little stressed then the heat comes burned a few leaves and caused a fair amount of floppy wilt at the tops...Also a few flowers were kicked.
-
Post haste I got my shade cloth project finished yesterday that I've been putting off, waiting for that week of mid 80s...Lesson learned. Still need to tidy it up a bit but it sure does a great job. From piercing sun and too hot to walk on concrete to warm sun and easy to walk on concrete, makes such a difference. So far I have the 50% up and have a 75% in the garage for when we start cresting 100.

The wilt is slowly recovering and I'm watering just a little bit every other day or when the soil looks dry. I figure capillary action will pull down what ever the top dry layer doesn't need and will try not to dump gallons on them twice a week. Also, I'm watering the fabric around the pots in the hopes of keeping the outer extremes a little damp.

Yes it sure is odd! It's been a few weird years weatherwise.

June started COOL/COLD around here. Mon/Tue/Wed temp range 60-63F. That is for highs.
This weekend it will pick up to 82F, the highest. Not really a zapping though. It should be perfect tomato weather. I can imagine, when it gets 82F here, lot of places will be in 90s and triple digits.

Dang AZ, that's hot, you're going to need 120% shade cloth!

Just noticed you're from Seattle Gardeneer, love it up there.

We're back to cold again. At this time last year we were pushing 100.
