Brandy Boy still in production?

I don't know if anyone else has noticed, but I'm seeing a curious lack of Brandy Boy seeds.. Every Walmart I've been to lately has lots of other tomato varieties, but no Brandy Boy...

In fact, I have only seen the seeds in 2 places at this point - Burpee's online site, and Rachel's Supply.

Should I worry?

Wal-Mart does not carry Brandy Boy this year.

I have seen it at Home Depot, Lowe's, and Houston Plants & Garden World.

I bought 4 packets this year, so if you need some, please let me know. I need to come up with something that doesn't run afoul of the rules, like maybe SASE plus an additional two 39 cent stamps for 8 seeds, just to cover the cost of buying them.


Note that there is some question as to whether Brandy Boy is even an F1 hybrid or a stable OP variety. It is NOT Brandywine, as the leaf shape is a tiny bit different and productivity cannot be confused with Brandywine. I have spoken to Mischka some about this.

I don't know if Wally World dropped
the BB seeds.
I do know last year, the BB seeds were the last to be put out.
Keep a look out at WW, they might get there.

I bought a pack at Lowe's today, here in Houston. They were $1.88 for 65 mg. I opened the pack poured out the seeds and counted 30 seeds. Then poured the seeds back in the package and resealed for use next year.

Wow. I opened a packet from Home Depot and it was 17 seeds. Same price.

I do not know if you monitor GW, but I bought two packs of Burpee Porterhouse at Wally World and sent them off to interested folks, for the hell of it. The seed counts were pitiful. Brandy Boy was one I wanted for myself and found. Burpee makes their bucks from hobbyists, I guess? The giant seed folks make it from farmers? Industrial farmers at that, most likely. I just love growing tomatoes and a few bucks for seed is the least of my expenses.

Thank you for the offer, Feldon, but I still have an unopened pack left in my ever-growing seed crate.. so I should be okay for a while (only start 4 or 5 of any given variety per year), especially if the seeds for it can be found elsewhere.

I was more just curious, in case I needed to stock up on any I DID find

I've found the seeds available here and also on Burpee's site. Haven't had any trouble getting them yet. Jay

Anyone else think they are a bit on the expensive side at $4.40/pack? I think it said 50 seeds?

yes it is costly, i hate it because i grow commercially as well as for fun and some of the burpee tomatoes are good sellers and there is no other source. forth of july is a prime example a very productive hybrid that is early and taste good a lot of my customers really like it. and i buy 300 seeds each year or so. the other is red october it stores soo verry well a lot of my customers like it too

burpee offers no real discounts just 5 dollars off if the order is 30 dollars or more and that just covers the shipping. that is why i tune into tomato fourms and try new varaties well new to mee to hopfully find a replacement but in the big picture of things the seed cost is very small to my total operation, right now i and in august i buy my seed for next year which for my business begins on dec 1 as i allow 12 weeks for slow grown seedlings before transplanting into the green house.

i have always believed in that ones hobby needs to pay for itself ani do sell a few seedlings helps with the bills of starting seeds, containers, soil, lights seedlings electric etc

There is some conjecture about whether Brandy Boy is a hybrid at all, or a stable O.P. Unfortunately I don't have the space to accurately test this theory.
