Default Elfie leaf type?

I have both RL and PL seedlings for this variety, out of the same seed packet. Which is correct for Elfie? Thanks!

I believe RL is a correct one, at least all entries in SSE 2007 Yearbook that mention leaf type say 'regular leaf'

These are about half and half. I hope the RL ones turn out to be the real Elfie. Thanks so much for checking, Tania.

The Elfie I received from Carolyn were RL.

A pretty good production of large yellow beefsteaks. Mine had a touch of green on the shoulders.

Tasted pretty good also if I remember correctly.

Michele, since it sounds like you really do have crossed seeds I think all bets are pretty much off as to the assumption that any RL's might be Elfie.

Were these4 your saved seeds?

The only way one could get about half RL and half PL is for one parent to be heterozygous for leaf form, and that would be RL, crossed with a homozygous recessive PL as the other parent.

You could hope that your RL's might be from self pollenization, but let's just hope.

And depending on how much space you have some of the growouts of the PL's and RL's might be very interesting.

I do have more seeds of Elfie that I could send you if that would help for this year. I 'll lose this post if I go back to see where you live so I don't know if that would help, or not, depending on where you live as to seed germination time.

Thanks, Carolyn. I'm in Va. Beach and I usually set my plants out in the garden around May 1. A little later than that isn't going to hurt. If you know where the seeds are and it's convenient for you to get to them, a few would be great. Most of my back yard is a pool or a patio now, so unfortunately, I don't have room to grow out any "experiments." I might put in one of these RL plants to see what I get but I don't have room to chance it with all of them. The seeds were purchased, by the way. So if it's easy for you to drop them in the mail this week, that would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for the offer.
