Had to build a shelter not only for cool nights but also to protect the plants from this heavy wind we´ve had almost every day. Very cold o cool June so far, like last year too.

We had it unusually windy too - blowing a gale day after day. But also, very sunny, which isn't something you can count on here. Of course we got heavy frosts to go with the hot days and clear skies..

Now that the wind has cut back, the blackflies are so bad, I wish it was windy again.

The gardening season is about over. Tomorrow it´ll be -4C.
Got some tomato crop from outdoor plants but they were infected by a potato rust and the growth was poor. In the GH the hydroplants grew big but with too much vegetative growth instead of fruit.
Anyway, here´s some pics from my growings 7/15 - 10/15.

Oaxacan jewel

Stupice

Paul Robeson

Orange strawberry

Goldkrone

Garlic

Jalapeños

Chanterelles

Start F1

Chilis in greenhouse

Riesen gelb rocoto, the heaviest was 165g

Kohlrabis, 11,6kg and 12,7kg

Young hybrid roosters

Finnish heirloom chicken.

In the midnight. Midsummer. Enough light to read outside.

Great pictures, Bluesman. Nice harvests... good to see the year was not too bad after all.
You must be really far north, to have light at midnight like that.

Thanks. Fighting with aphids was frustrating but yet I managed to get some crop.
Even from sweetcorn. Pumpkins remained small and the giants were not pollinated early enough to grow big. Kale and other cabbages thrived.
Well, Finland is quite northern country, just have a look at the global map.

Well Start F1 was among the first ones to ripen. I had it both outdoors and greenhouse.
One of the best producers. Difficult to compare because of bad summer.

Beautiful country that you live in. I just love your view. I am glad to hear that you can grow some decent tomatoes so far north.

How did you like your Orange Strawberry and did Paul Robeson have much flavor grown that far north?

Well located north doesn´t mean we can´t grow anything here. It just was the coldest June since 1959 and many plants had a shock and didn´t pollinate early enough. Such as big pumpkins. Zucchinis were OK. Astonishing was that also sweetcorn ripened and the crop was close to 100 cobs from 30 plants.

Both Paul Robeson and Orange strawberry were very tasty. I had OS in the greenhouse and there still is some big ones just about to ripen. PR was outdoors and I had chicken picking holes in the toms. Had to put a net to protect the crop. I managed to get one decent PR before potato rust hit the outdoor plants.

Because of the 22h daylight all the herbs have ~30% more aromatic oils than herbs in central Europe. So if the temps are okay we have more growing season than you could expect.
