Red Torpedo Tropea and Red River Onions
Anyone grow these onions? They look great.

I grow the Tropea Lungo, which I believe are the same as the Torpedo. I like them in tossed salads and I always make a few jars of refrigerator pickled onions with them using a recipe from Michael Symon. The only thing I don't like about them is that they don't keep very long. About 50% of the ones I have left are sprouting.

We grew Red Tropea Longa at the farm this year. Beautiful onions - strong flavour. Some of them didn't bulb at all - although they were nearly as fat as leeks. We kept those ourselves and used them green not for storing.
