Default UV Warning!!!

I want to post this now due to an observation here in Central Texas.
You can no longer just put your plants out to sun without limiting the time and getting them used to it.
The reason is I have been running around outside half naked all winter,
Today I have noticed I am starting to turn my usual summer brown.
The sun has now gotten extremely stronger.

Yeah im good and tan over here too. My arm hair always goes golden in the summer but this year it was golden year round. I have been wearing sunscreen since last spring. Did i mention it is we have been at 90° for the last week. So much for El Nino, its more like La Nina.

I stay tan, but usually get a little lighter in winter - not this year though.

ohhh... (with a sigh of resignation) we had another 4" of snow overnight. Extremely heavy wet snow. hard to shovel snow. there were 400+ school closings for our area. I left this morning at 5:30 to go shovel snow for one of our contracts and the road hadn't been touched by the county. 4" of snow on any road is a hazard. definitely no sunburn or tan going on here.

I got a couple inches of that today myself. I was knocking it off the high tunnel plastic from inside with a broom handle that had a milk jug stuck on the end. My arms got a great workout. The snow was so sticky and wet that it didn't want to slide off.

Its funny i wish we had the cold weather we had a couple weeks ago. It actually felt like winter.

Good reminder Worth.

We had 50-60 mph tornado winds and heavy rain. Only lost three trees so far from it. Today, sunshine and low 60's, but that sun was hot. Had to come inside and find my straw hat. I need to find one with a bigger brim.

Even though we are warming up here a bit, a few days of being out has started the face and arms tanning. Sure doesn't take much. I had a few plants sitting on porch the other day and though it was cool and cloudy, the plants did get some sun scorch.

Yeah, there's a very troublesome high pressure zone out over the PAcific, and its not letting any cool fronts( low pressure) into your area, for those in CA.
We had the same thing in December in the Atlantic, and had the hottest ever December on record.

I'm a bit less tolerant of the heat so the cold yet mild winter has been nice. -ish. Shoveled wet snow this morning and gone by this afternoon. Up to 50 by 5pm. After a five below weekend. Heavy rain washed that ugly bird poo off my skylight.
I work in NYC, my farm/garden is in the Catskills, my summer home is in Newfoundland and most likely retirement...keep heading north. Have plans to build a greenhouse in the future but may not need one the way the weather has been shifting.
My catskill farm is a month earlier in the spring and has been two months later in the fall. Gaining almost three months to my growing season from 20yrs ago.

Whether you live in sun or snow, you should always wear sunscreen DAILY, period! I cannot stress this enough. I've worn sunscreen every day since I was 15 and if I do say so myself, my skin looks better than most people my age--and I'm proud cuz it's not for vanity, it's for safety first and foremost. Better skin is just a wonderful secondary product of protecting your skin.
A friend's beautiful daughter passed away a few years ago from skin cancer; started with a mole on her neck. She was dead within a year and she was only 31. The ozone layer has been getting thinner from years ago and it's time to wake up, people. Wear your hats, long sleeves and gloves in the garden if you don't wear sunscreen. Something is better than nothing.
