First time with cucumber
I live in CT.I just have a quick question. I live in CT.
I live in CT. When should I plant Cucumber into the garden? Should I start it inside? If yes, then how far in advance? Thank you. Maya. |

I'll echo the comments above. The last few summers, I tried to get a head start by starting cukes inside and then transplanting. Every time after transplanting, the cukes would be stressed for a couple of weeks and struggling to survive. When I plant the seeds right into the garden, there are usually no problems.

first time with cucumbers.
I usually start my cucumbers in the cardboard from toilet roll innards. Plant the whole thing out in the garden when the time is right and the cardboard rots down.

I have planted cukes indoors, the upper limit is only about 21 days before your regular plant date. I have not noticed any great benefit from doing it--even if I keep on doing it.

I started my cukes about three weeks ago...got caught up in planting tomatoes and just kept going with cukes. I fear I started way too early. My Marketmore 76, Lemon and Sweet Success are going crazy in the the 16 ounce cups I have them in. I may have to put some in a container so that they can get started. I may also try direct sowing a few this year and see how that works out.

Maya, I also direct-sow mine right into the garden. They seem to do better for me that way. They grow and mature fast so I have always saved my inside growing space for tomatoes and peppers.
