Rhoades Heirloom--PL or RL?
Anyone know for sure? I think Grungy's list said PL but all my Rhoades seedlings, next in line to get potted up in my numbering system (and holding up the line), are all RL...
And so I won't have to stop around 3am, what leaf type are Japanese Black Trifele and Sunset's Red Horizon? My JBT are all PL and my SRH are both! Thanks. |

SSE catalog says RL. I believe it is Grungy's listing.

The real name for Sunset's Red Horizon is Rostova and it's RL.

Thanks everyone for replying.
I was looking at Grungy's thread "This years seed list is ready" and it almost slipped right by but upon further review saw this: "RHOADES HEIRLOOM Ind 1 lb+ bi-colour 70 - 80 days PL Vigorous and productive, 6 ft plants. Good real tomato taste, sweet, unique watermelon aftertaste few splits, no catfacing. A beautiful bicolour, now a must grow here. 28 lbs/plant 27# 12 oz" I almost missed it. But if SSE says regular then I'll plant them instead of tossing them...I really hate growing wrong varieties! Maybe it was a misprint above. As to Rostova, why a PL then? And here we go again! "SUNSET RED HORIZON Ind 8 - 12 oz red 70 - 80 days PL Very vigorous plants. Good flavour, good production. A little BER, and a moderate amount of splitting. 23# 1 oz" No offense to anyone but it's things like these & my GF's that give me gray hairs... can't sleep at night... makes me procrastinate... before you know it, ulcers... then... Wasn't Rostova like the next Marianna's Peace or another Ibsen treat? Any other opinions? I can really use the yarden space to grow more Cherokee Bi-Color plants. |

***** Mark, Rostova was offered for many years by a different seed company. Gary apparently liked it very much and entered into some kind of agreement with them to rename it Sunset's Red Horizon, but from what I can gather from reading at the other seed company's offerings and their comments about what happened, the deal wasn't what it was thought to be and they were ticked off royally and said so. I've grown Sunset Red Horizon, aka Rostova, and it's RL and should be RL. Seeds were sent to me in the Tomatofest Sunset Red horizon seed pack by one of our regulars both here and at GW but I can't remember which person it was right now. Possibly Bruce in CA, but that's just a possibility. Someone caught on to the two being the same when the background blurbs about both, one at Tomatofest the other at the other place, were identical.

I'm growing Rhode's from seed acquired in a trade. I suspect that the original source might be Grungy. It is not PL. See picture below.
