How many tomato plants can I plant in a 20 gal. grow bag.

I planted a single plant in mine- but I'm growing large indeterminate heirlooms. You could possibly get away with two. Especially if determinate or dwarves..

Kind of depends on the surface of it. If you don't prune, 1-2.

You could do many if you could manage them. Many commercial growers grow two pruned plants in 4-5 gallon containers, I grow one in a 6 gallon container.

A lot depends on the variety and how much time you want to spend taking care of them. You can grow them 5 gallons/plant if you are willing to fertilize and water more than once a day in the heat of summer and prune. I put 2 dwarfs or 1 indeterminate in a 20 gallon and they did well without that much attention. However, I did not completely fill the pot so it was probably more like 15-18 gallons/pot.
