Containers Inside....Staking in a freezer shell
Hi ....First this is only my 2nd year growing tomatoes in summer in an outside greenhouse so forgive me if I seem a little odd....it is approaching Winter here in NZ...
I have a "winter" greenhouse...A large freezer shell ... anything in the inner has been removed.. Inside the shell I have steel tubes running from side to side to support my Tomato pots ..under these tubes are 4 x sockets for ceramic heat bulbs and at present I have four 5 foot double T8 floro fittings..providing light from above .I have plans and room for a couple more freezers in my front room.???... I am growing from cuttings and they are doing quite nicely thanks to MissS and all the help she has given me and photos are available on the General Forum /Growing Laterals.... Now I am thinking ahead of the great crop of tomatoes I am going to have but of course I have to stake them properly to support them ...My plans are to grow two lower laterals from the main stem.... So I have attached a diagram of what I am thinking of.....I want each of my three stems supported by a stake supported by a Teepee of at least 3 uprights ...These will all be supported by a cross piece across the freezer so that no stakes are in the soil in my container... I presume then I will apply strings to support the branches .... I welcome comment on this ... Thanks Ron |
