Lucy,
Small world, I go to that HD all the time. Yamagami's Nursery is nearby. The huge Apple HQ expansion has changed all of that area now. I've been to Oahu many times - son and family lived on King St at the Nimitz across the canal from Chinatown. We would go to the Liliha Bakery all the time - really miss the macroons. http://lilihabakeryhawaii.com/ Raybo |

Ray,
Yes, it is a small world! My parents moved to the Cupertino area in 1970, before hwy 280 was built. Only orchards were around. My dad was also an engineer and worked on the USS Enterprise since the early '50s until it went out to sea and Hunters Point closed. Dad passed away about 10 yrs ago. The weather there is perfect for growing fruits and vegetables. He grew the most amazing tomatoes, mostly heirlooms. He dehydrated many too. 2 years ago, I picked the seeds from 3 different color tomatoes his dried (over 6 yrs prior) and planted them, and they grew!!! I saved the new seeds and shared them with my sisters who still lives in the area. Liliha bakery is well known here (love their cream puffs). I live in Kaneohe, windward side were it rains more often so I battle powdery mildew on bad seasons. I love it here in Hawaii and it's been my home for almost 40 years now. The only bad thing here is, we are so limited to stores and held hostage to what they carry. Your 3.2.1 mix has worked incredibly for me and getting the bark had always been my problem until I found the sm orchid nuggets and now I will be using the med nuggets per your advise . I have to grow in swc on my deck because I have wild (big) pigs coming into my yard and they eat everything! Some people have deer problems, and some have rabbits problems, it's always something, lol. Aloha, Lucy |
