Winter Gloves..a gardening must in my zone

Just another typical hailstorm in my area:

Protecting the peppers and Tomato plants that are on the deck. All of my precious tomatoes and pepper are in various greenhouses

Tunnel protection for the subdwarf tomatoes- Rejina, Rejina Yellow and Venus

The sheer weight of the hail caused my netting to sag inwards but thankfully the carrots are okay.

However, my makeshift protection for my potatoes failed:

Winter gloves are a must in my zone to help with the hail:

I scooped up the hail and put it back in my Japanese long green onion bed. ( I have heard that snow has a very high nitrogen content so I figured hail must also)

Around here you must garden under cover to protect the crops from the wrath of Mother Nature

I can see why you have row covers! Hoping everything survives!

Is this weather typical for your summers?

Yes, unfortunately we get a couple of these hail storms every summer. This was the first one of the season, rather late.

Potatoes will be okay but their size will probably be a tad smaller than I hoped for. Fortunately, my garlic, and only bed (in front of the greenhouse ) that was not covered had just been picked.

My gosh! It's July for Pete's sake! Not supposed to see that much white stuff on the ground! Must have hailed for quite a while to accumulate that much, I'm glad your tomatoes were protected. We've have two severe thunderstorms with extended power outages and wind enough to lay down my sweet corn, but thankfully no hail (so far)!

Several parts of PA experienced hail earlier this summer (and probably not for the last time). Seems like the incidence is increasing. Very damaging stuff - glad you seem well rigged to handle it.

It used to be one hail event every few years but now it is a few hail storms every year!
