I love that stuff more than anything else! Buy them out!!
There is also a thread on the professional version which comes in a larger bag. Heading to WM now !!!!! - Lisa It worked very well when I used it 2 years ago. I didn't use nearly that much per plant, Robert. In fact I didn't use it after the initial planting, but mid season it was obvious it needed a boost. I gave it a liquid shot then. Still $3 at my store. The grass seed was marked down again, but not garden fertilizers. I should be happy with half off but I have enough odds and ends stockpiled to wait it out. No worse than ttf imho. Last edited by greenthumbomaha; October 5, 2016 at 09:08 PM. |

I started a search, and of course the first site is Amazon selling it and Lowes.com
Box Stores: Home Depot and Walmart have it in stock at local stores during growing season. There are probably more that don't advertise it online. |

Love that stuff, too! At full price it gets expensive ($5 per jug at HD and Lowe's). I used it in 2015 at about a quarter of the recommended amount, applied every three weeks, and my plants were fantastically productive. This year, I used Mater Magic only when planting and right after blossoms appeared, and a liquid (Dr. Earth) for two other feedings. This year's plants did o.k. despite high temps in July that caused blossom drop, but I'm definitely going back to just Mater Magic in 2017 -- I recently found a bunch on clearance at $2 each. Wish it had been $1! Note that it seems to work better in-ground than in containers.

I saw this thread a few days ago and from the results people have had I checked today at Wally World and saw it for 50 cents so I bought all 13. After reading the instructions it seems like 1 bottle will only feed a few plants all season. It wouldn't be cost effective for me to use it on all the plants I grow at full price but for .50 I'll see how it does compared to my normal fertilizers.
I think I got there at the right time, they were marking down the marked down items again. This was first marked down to 2.50. So check the stores again and it may be cheaper. |

Dang. I saw these for about $3, then they were gone. Christmas crap has already taken over our garden center as of about 2 weeks ago.
Seriously. It's not even Halloween yet. Lucky dogs, the lot of yas. <3 |

So if you dig into the website a little more the claim is a coating that makes it a slow release.
The secret to the best looking plants with the least effort is in the Dynamite coating. This coating prevents “flashing” or quick release of nutrients during heavy rains thus protecting the environment. Each Dynamite Plant Food “prill” is wrapped in a special resin coating that ensures controlled and precise release of the nutrients inside. There is an agent that allows water to penetrate and then release the nutrient into the surrounding soil. The prills will not crack or break, which prevents excessive nutrient release and minimizes nutrient runoff into the ground water. The special coating ensures that the nutrients release evenly over the entire 9 month period. Each Dynamite prill contains major nutrients nitrogen (N) , phosphorous (P) and potassium (K) plus micro-nutrients like iron, magnesium, manganese, copper, zinc, boron and molybdenum (as established by the respective product analysis). And Dynamite Plant Food feeds in average temperatures up to 77 degrees (other products can only sustain average soil temperatures of 70 degrees). Dynamite won’t ‘flash out’ but will maintain its integrity and continue to release nutrients for up to 9 months. Dynamite products help plants grow and are kind to the environment Many strides have been made by the lawn and garden industry to be more conscious of our natural environment. And Dynamite Plant Food has been a leader in green, sustainable gardening practices since 1990. Black Gold Envirosafe sells only products that grow and nourish thriving plants. We are partners with millions of home gardeners who make the choice to use Dynamite for the best results with the least effort and least impact on our environment. Choose Dynamite Complete Plant Food for your flowers, vegetables, shrubs and trees. It’s a smart choice that does not sacrifice performance while being environmentally sustainable. Preventing Runoff Dynamite Plant Food’s patented coating technology is what minimizes the possibility of nutrient run off that often occurs with fertilizers and plant foods. The coating maintains integrity under periods of environmental stress and will not allow nutrients to ‘flash out’ or dump during high temperatures or heavy rain. This prevents the release of more fertilizer than the plant can absorb at any one time. Other granular or time release fertilizers allow heat and heavy rain to cause nutrients to run off into the groundwater. Nitrogen source does makes a difference Our advanced controlled release system delivers nutrients to your plants when they need them. This allows maximum uptake of nutrients to the plant while minimizing excess run off of nutrients into ground water. Dynamite Complete Plant Food contains ammoniacal and nitrate nitrogen rather than cheaper urea nitrogen. A large majority of plants cannot absorb urea nitrogen until it is first broken down into ammoniacal and nitrate nitrogen forms. This is called the nitrification cycle and takes time for the urea to break down in the soil and become available to the plant roots. During periods of heavy rainfall, urea fertilizers is not absorbed by plants and is leached into the groundwater contributing to groundwater pollution. Environmentally friendly Dynamite Complete Plant Food is the preferable choice for homeowners over urea-based fertilizers and plant foods." |

They were packing the fertilizers up when I checked today. The aisle was chock full. The department manager said they were not allowed to mark down the fertilizers further as some have a use by date of 2020.
Any incremental revenue they can make next season is more than offset by paying employees to repack the unsold merchandise and find storage space for it. I like that they are trying to carry a better line but I am concerned that it will not be stored properly. - Lisa Last edited by greenthumbomaha; October 7, 2016 at 07:47 PM. |
