Yes, I grew Sakharnyi Zheltyi 3 years ago and loved it. I like sweet tomatoes best. If I recall from Tatiana's data base, this one is likely to have a large core. It is a beauty. Maybe I misread what other posters wrote, but I think this an open pollinated, not hybrid. If you like the taste and looks of this one you would probably like Gold Metal too.

Yeah I think too it is an OP. That is what I was told by RJG, who gave me the seeds.
I am gonna wait a couple of more days before I slice and taste it. I should the take a few pictures too

I just saw the SZ thread - that is a nice looking fruit, and they are definately OP. If I may ask, why did you pick it at first blush as opposed to leaving it on the vine? My SZ are typically smoother than yours - are your other fruit as fluted as this one?

Hi RJ,
The reason I picked it at the first blush was not to take a chance with the birds pecking at it. I will leave the other ones on the vine longer.
Most of the other ones are also ribbed too and not really smooth.

Few days ago I sliced and tasted my first SZ.

I was quite disappointed the way it tasted. It was nowhere being sugary (sakharnyi). Actually it was not sweet at all. Maybe because of being the first fruit it happened to be like that. I am looking forward to taste more, in order to make a decision whether to grow it again or not.

I grew it this summer and I was also disappointed for the same reason. I couldn't taste even a hint of sweetness. They were big fruits tho so that made up for a little.

Thanks for the comment and confirmation.
I don't mind tangy / acidic taste but not bland. . I will not grow it again.

During the first week of Sept I performed a side by side tasting of vine ripened Sakharnyi Zheltyi, Lemon Boy F1, and Golden Girl F1. We had a very poor growing season with severe hail damage this year, so my avg # of ripe fruit per plant was: SZ - 1, GG - 4, LB - 3.

In the first picture, top left is Golden Girl F1, top right is Lemon Boy F1 and at the bottom is Sakharnyi Zheltyi. The Lemon Boy F1 appears more orange in the photo than it actually was - it was more yellow, like the colour you can see on the right side of the fruit. The second picture is Sakharnyi Zheltyi, showing its meaty interior.

My Preferences:
1. SZ vs LB - SZ had more flavour, a deeper taste and was sweeter.
2. SZ vs GG - the flavour and taste were basically the same for these two. SZ is a bit more acidic, and I prefer the firmer texture of GG.
3. GG vs LB - GG is the taste winner between these two, similar to SZ vs LB.

My preference this year was 1. Golden Girl F1 (Pinetree), 2. Sakharnyi Zheltyi (Casey's), then 3. Lemon Boy F1 (Stokes). We'll try it again next year.

I moved from WA to NC 3 weeks ago and left my garden behind to my relatives. So I did not have a chance to fully review SZ. All I can tell is that it was a good and early produce.
I will grow it next year along with Limmony to see how they compare

Wow - WA to NC sounds like a good tomato move, although folks there seems to have lots of disease issues. Enjoy and good luck
