Yes, thanks for the correction. Are most of the people still nomadic? Do you think that they were originally Tartars from Russia?

Oops, my apologies to the OP for hijacking. I know I can study online but I've never known anyone who has met the Saami people. I've heard that they would rather not be called Lapps but I never knew why.

OzoneNY, Thank you for sharing these photos and details about your travels. My paternal Grandparents came from Italy. I am pretty sure my Dad said his Mom's family were from Positano area. His Dad was from Frosinone. They would argue over the names of food...like gnocchi vs. cavatelli. I remember my Nona telling us kids that when she was our age (6-10yrs olds), that she and the other girls in the village would fetch water to their homes with large clay pots that they would carry on their heads. So yeah, Italy would be a nice place to visit...like camping/roughing it for a while. But getting back to the U.S. with it's plumbing and other conveniences is really nice. ( I camped for a month in the back woods of Maine by a lake. The only running water was us kids running back and forth from the spring caring containers of water. It was so nice to get back home to Maryland and a hot shower and a real toilet. ) |
