Thank you for posting Rajun!

I have been hounding the garden dept manager if they were going to carry this since you posted. They loaded up the outdoor area this week. The inside people of course had no knowledge of the product, but I went around the back and it was there!

No price, no tags but they have the organic. Yipee!
I'll be topping off the raised beds after the rains ..

Attention Wal Mart shoppers:

This was a huge let down. It is nothing like the Pro Mix BX and related Pro Mix professional products. It is almost like pure light brown peat with a tiny bit of perlite and a ton of sticks. Nothing like the fluffy dark peaty mixture in the more expensive product.

I had already hauled it home and dumped a bag so it is my permanent growing medium in my new raised bed for greens and carrotts. I'll be darned if it doubled in size. I bought SIX bales so I 'd have plenty to top off other beds. I used all but a small bit of one bag to fill the new bed <sigh>.

That is what most potting mixes are made : Peat moss based.
I make my own mix : (*) get peat moss (*) get pine bark mulch (*) get DE (Optisorb from Oreiley ).
Then I will screen the mulch ( < 1/2" mesh ).
Mix about 3 parts screened pine bark mulch, 2 parts peat and one part DE.
I like DE better than those tiny perlite that practically do nothing at that size and percent/quantity.

There's a huge difference between peat potting products imho. I really like Pro Mix, Fafard and Fertilome. They don't get heavy and wet. I'll post a pic of the Wal Mart P.M. version and if someone would post a pic of a specialty version maybe we can see the difference on screen.

Looks exactly like the ~$13 2cu ft. compressed bales of "pro-mix Ultimate" that I get at Menards; It's an orange and white bag.

Although not the dark color, and perlite content of HP or BX, it works fine for seedlings; I use it to make Fox Farms Ocean Forest mix go further. Maybe 3 parts FFOF and 1 Part Pro-Mix Ultimate. Then I don't have to worry about burning my seedlings with liquid fert. which I always tend to do!
