My flowers look as yellow as can be. Hard to tell on the foliage color, it's planted away from all the rest, would have to take a large sucker and compare it to the other varieties. It's pretty bushy but only 2-3ft tall so far.

AS I told Mark (Korney) in a recent e-mail, I can send out seeds for Dr. Lyle and with the same exact seeds some see both the gray/green foliage and pale petals that I see and some do not.

Not seeing those two traits should thus not invalidate the variety from being Dr. Lyle b'c it's become clear over the many years since 1999 when I discussed those two things in my book that there must be differences such as amendements used, perhaps soil pH, who knows what, that results in not everyone seeing those two traits.

The foliage color is green and the blossom color is yellow for both of my Dr. Lyle plants, i.e., they look like their neighbors in the tomato plot. The seed source was Sandhill. This is my first time growing Dr. Lyle and I'm looking forward to tasting it.

this is year 2 growing dl. year 1 seeds from tville member, this year seeds are from year 1 fruit. color of flowers and density of foliage seems to be the same as last year.

my flowers are a bit paler than the bright yellow that tomatoes normally are but they are still yellowish. the foliage looks the same color as the other plants around it. dl is one of the more vigorous plants as far as height and the amount of foliage. sun gold maybe a bit taller but has less dense branches and leaves.

color is so subjective, pale yellow vs whitish flowers or gray green vs green leaves. my point is not only do we all experience different weather, have different soil but we see it all based upon our unique eye sight. i'll take a closer look at the leaves but unless i read it here i would not have noticed any color difference in the leaves. flowers yes, i thought they were paler. one seriously good tomato!

i'm keeping a close on on tyw, tomatoes forming, vigrous plant.

Its hard to capture the color of the foliage, but its spot on Gray/Green.
I really grew this one for the flav. and not just the cool blossoms / foliage. After being a "slow poke" its really sizing up to be a monster plant ~

I got my DL seed from Carolyn (thanks again, Carolyn, if you're reading!) and have grown it for several years. I don't notice that my blossoms are significantly paler or my leaves significantly grayer than my other varieties, so the first year I grew it I even wondered if I had crossed seed. There may be some color variation, but if so, in my plants it has been very subtle. The tomato is outstanding, though.

Yes, I'm reading here.

And your post just illustrates what I've been saying all along; that I send out my seeds of Dr. Lyle and some folks get paler blossoms and some don't and some see the gray/green foliage and some don't.

And many here have offered possible reasons for that ranging from weather, soil conditions, amendments used, individual color perception and more.

But most of you have said time and time again that the fruits are outstanding and with that I will agree.

So, don't assume that you have to have the two traits that have been discussed here in order to validate that you're growing Dr. Lyle, as I also said in an earlier post in this thread.
