Gave some more away today and a bit less "frazzled " as nan puts it ...LOL
People sure do like the Brandyfred Tomatoes and Zlotoe Serdtse and lots of comments of the Rose Quartz multiflora clusters .....looking like bundles of grapes etc. Trying my best not to waste ....etc.

I agree ....
things are slowing down a bit as more plants are being decommissioned etc. I felt a bit like the sorcerer's apprentice ......and like I had inadvertently cast the Tomato harvest spell ...and things were getting out of control LOL It is a good thing things are slowing now but constant fall garden management is needed before it is too late ........what about all those other "non tomato " garden things ......oh oh......LOL

Well, its a hard thing to wish fewer tomatoes on anybody, but I'm glad you're not so overwhelmed as things taper off. Feel the satisfaction of that packed larder!
My mother grows tomatoes for productivity, and I've seen that desperate look on her face as she brings in yet another big bowl of tomatoes, knowing she has trays and trays of ripe ones in a backroom. (We just made 7 more liters of tomato soup... ) |

Here's the recipe, I made the following changes: home grown tomatoes made into sauce(instead o canned), no chicken stock (though I have put a bouillon cube in sometimes), and where it says to chop the onion, instead just puree it & cook it with the sauce so that you don't need to puree the whole thing later.

This looks really similar to my homemade, "throw it together" version but I'll try it with homemade tomato sauce, home canned stock, the onion pureed as you do, and minus some or all of the sugar and compare! I think it sounds really good - and really it's hard to go wrong with tomato soup aside from acidity/sweetness... Yum |

MdTNG, sounds like you already have a good "throw together" tomato soup!
I didn't keep to their measurements for the spices, sugar & cream; just used the "taste method" to decide how much it needed. I also added Garlic Salt and Garlic Pepper rather than plain salt/pepper or real garlic. |

BTW, BlackBear, I've been meaning to ask you about your world famous borscht. I've never eaten borscht, but thought it was beet-based. Does yours have tomatoes?
