Default Last Frost date

I am an eternal optimist. I have researched the last frost dates for the last 56 years. Out of those years we have past 17 of them. Last year it was March 4. The official frost date is the first week in April.... I have had plants out for a few weeks in containers. The record last frost date was April 21.
Does anyones else in zone 8 have plants out? I have said this more then once to my husband... if a huge frost comes its ok more plants in the greenhouse if a huge frost does not come we hit the tomato lottery!! It looks safe for the next 15 days. I watch the weather more then my Grandma did!-Rena

Hi, Rena--

I already have 50+ plants in the ground as of this weekend. I've got backups for the majority of them though. And, over the next week or so, I'll gradually put in several more.

I really do think it looks like smooth sailing ahead (and besides, my transplants were ginormous!). It was either plant out, top off, or put in gallon pots. And, I'm not going to do that for over 100 plants. My backyard is pretty much an 8b microclimate (south side, blocked by long ranch style house on north side, completely fenced in w/tall fence), so I think it will be okay.

Best of luck with yours.

Suze, Good to hear I am not the only crazy one I do hope we are right. The next 15 days look great. I am going to keep doing what you are doing and continue to put out a few each day! Happy Gardening
With my toes, eyes and fingers crossed
