Because of the thread here I ate a PH today. It was OK. Really nothing wrong with it, just not a top favorite. A good tomato that just seemed to lack something to my taste buds.

It started slow for me but did come on to make some fruit. I doubt I will try it next year.

When deciding this year's selection, we wanted a big smooth flavorful beefsteak (I like different colors, therefore "my side" is MP and KB, but DH yearns for a thick, juicy red slice on his sandwich). I had really hoped Porterhouse would fit the bill.

I'm just disappointed for him that he didn't get a good red tomato for slicing. Ha, ha - I snuck in a couple of Brandywine OTV's on "my side", and they're starting to blush, so maybe the poor guy won't have to wait another whole year for a BLRedT!

Bigdaddyj, just proves (once again) there ain't no sure thing when growing these pesky maters. I'm so glad they did well for you.

Yes, it is interesting how the same variety can disappoint one year and prosper the next. Many varieties are like that. But this year PH did a fine job so far. Here's another pic. The 12 Toms in the forground ar Porterhouse. Notice, no major cracking and no tiny ones. The ones in the rear are Marianna's Peace which did great here also but a couple of years ago it was a complete dud.

Maybe if I get one of those bright red ones like Bigdaddy has it will be better...I need to try a Big Zac next year in PH's place. I just have not seen any seeds for it.
