Wet Leaves
Hi all,
We spread leaves across the garden. I went out today with the leaf vacuum/mulcher to chop up the leaves. Clog. Another clog. Repeat. So I just tried to do the dry ones on top. More clogs. They aren't likely to be dry all the way down until June. Major disappointment here. Is there anything that will break up these leaves? Mower? Rototiller? Thanks in advance, Nan |

A hard toothed rake just to stir them up and let the worms do the work.

A decent sized lawn mower will do it...

Your welcome, I used to make compost in the fall using leaves and grass with a lawn mower! It would mulch up real good...

Nan, Best let those leaves dry out until crunchy, then hit 'em with lawnmower. Some 50 years ago we were able to get "paunch manure" from a slaughterhouse along the north shore of the Allegheny River. Believe between Etna and Blawnox, or thereabouts. The stuff was mostly digested, not putrefied, and easily shoveled. We loaded it into a No. washtub and composted it with wood shavings from a mill in Crafton. Finally found a dumptruck driver who picked up and delivered it to our garden in Greentree. It was great stuff.

Lawnmower will work of the layer is no too thick, too wet.unless you loosen it up, and do few rounds. IMO
