The Wild Thymes, Elgins and Horton's Purple
In trying to track down a source for Wild Thyme Pink seeds, I have stumbled across an expanded line of GWR, Pinks and Purples, along with a sister line, the Elgins.
I also found something called Horton's Purple, which I am starting to gather may be related to or an early version of Wild Thyme Purple. Do any of you tomato historians know the backgrounds of these varieties? Or where seeds can be procured? Right now I am eying Wild Thyme Purple and Horton's Purple at Marianna's and thinking of buying... but I have a suspicion they may be different versions of the same tomato. Thanks very much. |

Ouch! Sorry..
It looks like she ran out last year in her offer but still had fruit so she had to wait a little bit.. I wonder if she's still getting fruit now? Al Last edited by Al@NC; February 23, 2018 at 05:02 PM. |

Thanks Karen. I did stumble over that and had a similar impression. That is actually what inspired my post.
I did find the story interesting, so I thought I'd appeal to the group knowledge hereabouts and see if anyone could clear up the story. Last edited by JosephineRose; February 23, 2018 at 06:42 PM. |

As is often the case it seems, the invisible Ms. Anderson seems to be getting the short end of the stick as far as her tomato discovery is concerned. Swiftly appropriated by others and that is the last you hear of her. Same story plays out quite a lot in the tomato world.

I do have another Wilde thyme pink fruit getting ripe. If it has good looking seeds I will ferment it, and replenish for those who still want it. There's also another one on the vine so we have more potential seeds. Hang in there I should know in a week and a half.

I now have more Wild Thyme Pink seeds, and I germination tested them. 5 out of 5 sprouted a root tip(radicle)in about 60 hours. If You were left out by me running out in my seed offer, pm me and I will send some out to you.
If you just want some and don't mind sending me an SASE, I will give you some too. By some, I mean about 6-7 seeds, which will be fine because thry all germinated in my test. |
