Thanks for all the thoughts!
I'm leaning towards Big Beef and Sungold/Sunsugar (depends which one I can get seed through). I'm frustrated on ordering seeds. |

If I had to make a recommendation to a novice gardener for an all around tomato I would not hesitate to say Early Girl. It is a basic tomato that is dependable, has good flavor, is useful in most any application, and is probably close to what he has in mind. A little success and he will be ready to try something new.

That is not even a doable choice. Taste is so subjective, some people like sweet, some like acid, some like strong tomato taste and some only like mild tomatoes. I would generally stick with something red or pink, though, unless you know they are open minded about tomatoes. Many people don' t want anything other than a medium, round, blemish free tomato like they see in the store.

Champion II (not the dwarf version) is a good red tomato hybrid.

I like Rebel Yell, Crnkovic Yugoslavian, Chapman or Brandywine Sudduth's for good beefsteaks. If you want something a bit earlier, but still tastes good, try one of our Mat-Su Express.
