I have a branch that I accidently broke, plz help
First time grower of anything here. I have a sweet 100 plant, that in tying it up, I broke the branch. It is the bottom branch and I always thought it was too low (right at ground level) and it has no fruit, although it is a pretty large branch. Today it is wilted bad. What I need to know is how best to get it off the plant. It is still connected and I didn't know if I should cut it off or what? Also once it is off do I do anything with the injured part of the main stem?
Thanks! |

One time I let a plant droop, it bent the stem so ad it split lengthwise. I made a split of some popsicle sticks and the wound healed enough that it made tomatoes the rest of the season.
Sounds too late for your branch to reattach it, Lop it off below the break with a clean sharp knife or scissors. Rinse the tool in mild bleach first if you're worried about getting something in the cut. It should dry off and seal itself up. A clean cut is better than a ragged one, but that's about all the "rules" that I know of. For fun, make a new clean cut on the branch you remove and promptly stick it in very moist soil. It may recover and set new roots. Nothing to worry about, really. I often remove very large branches when pruning wth no apparent harm to the plant at all. -Ed |

Plaz, if this is a side branch you can just take a very sharp knife and cut the branch off just past the injury. Then if you feel like it you can cut the injured part off of the branch, dip it in water, dip it in some rooting powder & stick it in the dirt. You'll have a spare tomato plant before you know it.

Wish I'd known that before I threw away the branch I broke off this week.
