My parents and grandparents grew Glamour and Bonny Best. But later on my dad grew some large Ashleigh tomatoes and Dwarf Champion.

My parents ordered from Gurney's, Burpee and Jung mostly. I remember Jung Wayahead and Big Boy from Burpee. Not tomato related but I remember the first white marigold. I think Burpee had a contest offering a prize.

Marglobe was *the* tomato for my family, because my Grandma had loved and grown it since it became available in the late 1920's. "Good for eating, good for canning, good for chili, good for sauces, good for cooking, and rugged, healthy productive workhorse plants."

A sizeable section of our garden is still Marglobe and family -- and same is obviously true of others -- in addition to the 'votes' for Marglobe, quite a few of the other favorites mentioned here are Marglobe children or grandchildren.

I have a (danish) gardening book from 1968, and the following varieties are mentioned and recommended in there:

-Dansk Eksport (Danish Export) - still available
-Marglobe
-Neue Bonner Beste - (german name, but a danish variety i think? still available)
-Lav Busk (Low Bush)- Still available
-Potentat & Kondine types (not sure about these, have to look into them)
-Golden Queen
-Yellow Cherry - (mentioned as a veriety name)
-Currant Tomato

They also mentions pink tomatoes and that many color and shapes are available for those who like to try something different, and have the room for them.

When did Bonnie's Plants come on the scene? Today, they are ubiquitous in the South.

Bonnie Best is not the same as Bonner Beste
I know it is still available, the ? was for whether or not it is a Danish variety- but after looking into it, it looks like it is indeed a commercial Danish variety despite the German name http://tatianastomatobase.com/wiki/Bonner_Beste
Neue (New) Bonner Best might be another variety.

Super Sioux was the first tomato I grew and that was in 1968. Thought they were fantastic at the time.
