Supermarket tomatoes, spring 2019

One of the sure signs of spring in our Northern hemisphere is that we are getting quite delicious tasting tomatoes imported from Spain. They usually appear February/Marc... Today, I bought a box full of dark maroon, beautifully shaped heirloom looking fruits at a reasonable price. They are slightly ribbed, and taste almost as good as a homegrown black / purple tomato.
I won't save seeds although there is an abundace of them inside the fruit..., I am already crammed for space, but I am sure that many local garden aficionados in my country will grow them out and even save seeds from the next F. (there are folks with huge greenhouses, I partly envy them and partly pity them for all the hard work that maintaining and cleaning a greenhouse requires.)

So happy to have a small foretaste of summer before July/August! Always a joy to see tasty tomatoes at the supermarket shelves, even if they are imported.

The variety in question might be Raf Marmande..
