Default New to me this year, Hanigan's Large Yellow

By the name, Hanigan's Large Yellow, I was expecting a large size tomato. Mine have been in the 4-6oz range, and not so large. Very meaty, firm and tasty, so I would say large in taste. Is anyone else growing these this year, or might I have an imposter?? Didn't find any info in the 2006 SSE book and don't have additional info to base my results on. Thanks, Patty

Great colour Patty, similar to the Earl of Edgecombe I grew last year.

Patty, I have all the SSE Yearbooks except for the 1982 and I just looked in the 2008 and there's no listing for this variety.

What was your source of seeds?

I rec'd seeds from our good buddy David, who is connected to all corners of the earth. Looked back at my pack and see there is also a Hanigan's Large Red, thinking it might be a last name from someone that he had rec'd the seeds from??
Better give the red a try next time because the yellow was just like I like them! I really thought they would be in SSE.......... Thanks, Patty

Patty,

I think I still have the original envelopes from HLY & HLR, with info on them. I'll try to hunt them down. I remember them being his mom's main farm stand tomato. I'll also contact David.

Resurrecting an old thread.

I started one seedling of Hanigan's Yellow for a salsa garden for my neighbor. She will not have a garden this year, so I will adopt the seedling. I see Patti and Tania both grew this, but no mention in Tville since 2008.

Height is always an issue for me in a confined space garden. I would like to know the approximate mature height. If there is interest in seed saving/sharing, it would be best in a pot to avoid disease chances in my yard. Things looked pretty awful at season end last year. Please post any info if you have recent memory of this variety.

I appologize, I see on the dbase that it was regrown in 2015. That's a good sign!
