Using treated lumber is it safe?
I'm growing pole beans for the first time this season and my son in law just finished a new deck and has strips of treated wood 2" x 2" by about 8 foot long.I was thinking about using those as a TP using 3 strips in a tripod for them to grow on.Would it be safe to use in the garden or should I paint over them to seal them?Sorry if this has been asked before.

I think you should be ok with that. The only time I'd worry about treated wood would be if I was burning it.

We have a Pagola which is made from treated timber and tried growing different variety of flowers under it and each time it rains you can see the flowers slowlyu suffering till the wilt and die off.
Whatever is in the timeber i am sure has a slow effect on plnts for the worse at least some of the plants..

The newer chemicals are safer now than they were before.

They grow here in Florida fields of dragon fruit on 4x4 pressure treated posts.

All my plants close to our PT fence seem to shy away. Our vines will not grab onto the wood.Tried to put some vanilla orchid vines,it started to kill them.Had to put cedar boards for them. For raised beds we coat insides and bottoms with asphalt which is organic. Not the driveway coating, but pure melted blocks the roofers use.

Thanks everyone,I'll look for something more organic.Bamboo is so expensive I don't have a truck and would use tree branches if I can.

If the wood was treated after 2002/2003 time period you should be ok.

As mentioned, newer treated wood/lumber should be ok. I might worry if they are next to/near root crops.
