Default What are all growing this year 2025?

Just wondering what others are growing for legumes this year?

I have been out of growing legumes for a few years, because of life time constraints and a minor flood resulting in loss of seeds.

Excited to be growing again year with a purchase from Sandhill Preservations:
Pole Beans:
  • Louisiana Purple Pod
  • Wax - Neckargold
  • Rattlesnake
Cowpeas:
  • Brown Crowder
  • Blue Goose
  • Tennessee Cream
Peas
  • Dwarf Grey Sugar

I plan on buying a few other bush beans locally as well.

White Scallops and Santorini is a must for Family meals in the summer.

Christmas Grape Beans, Crookneck Squash, Butternut Squash, Collards are a must for my family winter meals. My Collards Plants survived our big snow last week, and I have 2 Butter Nut Squash that i will cook next week.
The Cushaw Squash has a 3 year shelf life, but they all get eaten-up for dinner before summer months here at Angel Field.

Not sure yet apart from one, I shall definitely grow the heirloom family one I have that has been grown by my son in laws father for 3/4 of a century. Brought To Canada from Europe between the wars by friends of my in-law member And shared with me about 40 years ago.. No one has ever been able to identify it and we have tried. The bean markings and and flat streaked pods are very similar to Dragons Tongue but it is not a bush bean it is a Pole bean that can grow 10 feet Good very long green bean. great shelly bean and also makes a good dry bean. Very prolific

I need to repleish my seed stock this year.

Many have tried over the years but no one has been able to do it. I have shared it several times, I call it the Don Olson bean after the in law who first grew it,he was my son in laws father, My SIL does not like beans except this one and he loves them cooked fresh after being shelled and tossed in butter,

what is the country of origin?
dragons tongue is a yellow bean.
is that what your pole bean is?


i have had my own quest trying to nail down the name of
my uncle steve italian pole bean, but have come up empty.
mine is a flat pod romano type green bean with purple whorls on it.
amelias italian is same color as uncle steve, but is round vs flat.
then there is my grandma gina/uncle steve cross bean that i have been
stabilizing for a few years. i have some very good beans from that cross.
if this years crop proves stable, i will be sending seeds to sandhill preservation.

The story I got was they were brought from Europe by Jewish immigrants, they crossed Europe by land thought to be from Poland just before WW2 and brought several types of seeds with them. So they have been in Canada since maybe the mid 30's .My SIL's father got them just a few years after they arrived and had grown them ever since since his death 3 years ago. .I have had them since the late 80s.

They are pole ,a little later to mature than most I gave grown. Very tall, white flowers. Their pods are Romano type , long and flat and at first glance look green but when you look in a good light one can just see streaks in them, it is not a very strong streak but it is there. The dried seeds are a rich mid caramel color when fully dried with markings on them that are almost red, they are a very pretty bean. They are fat beans almost egg shaped not longish like some beans are.

My Sil'sl father told me the pods used to be more streaked many years ago and the plant grows taller, but was always a pole plant he said. I think it crossed in his or his neighbors yard as the Jewish family and him lived next door for many years and both grew many beans. It has not changed since I have had it and is quite stable now
