I started planting out today, 4/23. It is 72F, overcast, and it looks and feels like a gentle rain may start any moment. This morning I got 17 tomatoes in the ground...not quite half. I'm off again the day after tomorrow and plan to do the rest. Then sometime over the weekend or next week I'll start planting out my peppers and cukes. The tomatoes come first, naturally

Good growing to all!!!

Default Cutting it Close

I'm glad I have troops in reserve because it's supposed to dip to 36 overnight tonight and 34 tomorrow. With rain having sucked the heat out of the ground I'm not so sure we won't get frost. Since I do have backups I can't quite decide if I want to try and protect them or just let nature take its course. In any case I'll be watching the mercury closely the next couple days.

It is 51 degrees and raining here right now at 8 PM on 4/28. The predicted low for tonight is 37 degrees. I am hoping the cloud cover hangs in as long as possible and keeps the temperature above freezing. I am in the country so no heat island effect for me. After that, the weather forecast is smooth sailing. If I do get frost damage, it will be the latest I have had since I started in 1969.

It's 44 F right now (9 p.m. central) and the forecast is for between 30-32 F overnight. If we hit that it will be a new low for this date. It is also very wet. Not a good combination.
