If a person were so inclined to do so here is what you can do to control them.
It isn't easy but heck what good things in life are easy right.
Get that big tiller out and till up a stretch of soil however long you want it to be.
Go back and dig it out putting berms on both sides as you do.
Do this to a depth of probably a foot to 18 inches or so deep including the berm and around 2 to 3 feet wide.
Make the sides of the ditch you have dug slope out at about a 45 degree angle.
The put down a root barrier.
Put drain hols in the very bottom of it.
This is how you control bamboo or any other plant that has roots like this.

I wonder if the Asian grocery stores here in the U.S. Carries them? If so, get some and root it. I'd grow it in a big pot or barrel first.
