who is in Colorado? when are you starting...
I am getting the urge to start my seeds-this happens to me every year, sigh. With last year's weird weather and the spring that took forever to come, I am hesitating. I really want to start. I need to keep telling myself to be patient...has anyone started yet or when are you planning to start your seeds in Colorado?

I'm not in Colorado, but I'm just over the Rockies in Utah and we have similar climates. High Altitude, late frosts and early frosts, Spring that ranges anywhere from 30 degrees to the 80s and temps that can vary 50 degrees in 24 hours and then hot dry summers. I'm thinking of starting some peppers soon because they grow a lot slower. You can also start onions and leeks now. I usually start my tomatoes the end of March or first week in April. That gives me plenty of time to get some nice healthy plants to put out in May. I've toyed with the idea of planting a couple out sooner with wall of waters or some other kind of protection, but I haven't done that yet.
Do you ever feel like Spring in the Rockies is just a big head game? Tyffanie |

I agree with Tyffanie's time frame...I have started onions and leeks, plus eggplant and a handful of peppers that are longer season and/or go on my patio...I also have a few early tomato seedlings that go on my porch the end of April(they come in often before they get lett out 24/7).
If you have grow lights you can start later, if using only window light mid March is about the time to start... I have started plants (tomato) as late as April 25 and had good results...That was using grow lights 16 hours a day... I also like to plant my peppers in mid February as they often bloom before I get them out and I can save seeds from those plants.... Hopefully' spring will be much earlier and warmer than last year...but just in case I have lots of cabbage and endive seedlings too... Jeanne |

I think that should be about right, as I start my main group of tomatoes the end of March and I plant out about June 1-10...
Hopefully spring comes earlier than last year.... Jeanne |

I live just outside of Denver at about 5500'. I plan on starting my tomatoes in the middle of March and getting them outside in containers approximately May 20th.
