Default Just wanted...

To say thanks to all of you. I really have no idea what I'm doing <g> but I'm going to try growing some maters from seed this season. Maybe some peppers too!

You all have given me the courage to give it a shot and I sure do appreciate it.

11 weeks till my last frost date and I'm having a tough time waiting it out. I may have to start a few early just to see what happens

Thanks Craig! I've been lurking and reading for quite some time now. I think I'm pretty well setup to get started. I have a heating pad, trays and soil-less soil, and some 40 watt T-12's ready to go. Just waiting it out another week or two before I get serious about planting something.

Rod, that's how I got started growing flowers
I just got so antsy waiting to start my tomatoes, so I played around with a few packs of flowers to tide me over, and by the time the real growing (maters) came to be...I was in the groove LoL

Hi Barbee, well to be honest I've already started some chives, mint, and three pepper plants. I started them about three weeks ago. They seem to be doing fine but really havnt done much the last week or so. it might be because I have them in my basement and the temp stays right at about 60 degrees <shrug>. But this is all new to me, so maybe they're just spending more energy on root development right now?

My plans are to try and grow about 6 dozen tomatoes and a few dozen peppers. When it's time to plant I'll grab some stock at the local nurseries for the rest.

Well for their 4 week birthday present we went on a field trip out to the patio. We had a great time and even got to enjoy a small rain shower late in the day!

Thanks Steve! Best of growing to you too :-)
Now, if I only had a greenhouse I wouldnt have to drag those plants in and out of the house for the next month or so...

Thanks Sherry_AK :-) They seem to be doing well. My goal for next year is to learn about heirloom gardening.

Why not give a couple heirloom mater plants a try this year as a test run? Something like Brandywine or Rutgers. I have seen both at the local garden centers. This would give ya a taste of what they are like. Then you can decide if you want them next year.

Hi Kevin, that's a great idea. I'd like to find something thats good for canning, and is disease resistive. Man I miss my fresh maters!

Rutgers is a great heirloom caner. My late Aunt use to use them every year.
