Sandhill's Big Boy OP

I hope this hasn't been discussed before and I just missed it but I sure can't find anything.

What can you tell us about this one.

Big Boy: 82 days. Indeterminate, 1 pound flattened globe, red flesh, excellent yield, acidic taste. This is an open pollinated version of the hybrid.

I can't tell you anything much more than what Glenn has written, and that's that it's an OP version of Big Boy.

I just picked up my 1996 SSE Yearbook from the floor here by the computer and there I find that Glenn got it from Don Branscomb back in 1985 and it has been listed in the SSE Yearbooks throughout most of the years and folks have been pleased with it. And Don was a very experienced grower in CA.

When I started to dehybridize Big Boy I too got mostly red fruited plants and just a couple of the pink fruited plants I was looking for, as in trying to get out Teddy Jones, and those red fruits were pretty darn good, but I never did follow through with them, b'c it was the pink ones that I was interested in.

Now I don't necessarily agree with it being described as acidic trasting, but then I have a bee in my bonnet when I see that when I think someone means not bland, maybe strong tasting, whatever, but it's not acid that they're tasting.
