My own tomato
Hello everyone,
It's been a while since I've been online, but with spring coming up and some news, I wanted to come over and say hello. Last year was a great one where I've grown another 250 different sorts of tomatoes wherefrom I've developed my own sort of tomato. This sort is now ready to be launched. In advance I have chosen a name for the new tomato. I thought about the name of my girlfriend, Thaisa, because tomatoes have a special meaning to us. The tomatoes have a yellow color, cherrytype and they have a very sweet taste, picture in attachment. I"m thinking about taking seeds this year and in autumn 2009, I'd like to pass on the seeds of my new creation to other gardeners. What do you think about this new sort? Would you wanna have these sort? Thanks alot! Kind regards from Belgium Angelo |

Angelo, how would you compare your yellow cherry to Reinhard Kraft's Sungold Select, Sungold Select II and his newest I'll be growing this Summer, Big Sungold Select.
Or compare it to any other yellow cherries that folks would know about. I'm just curious but is it a selection from a hybrid or did you breed it yourself? And good for you for giving the variety such a lovely name.

I think that this one is sweeter, very sweet taste.
The tomato grows to 5 meters high (in the greenhouse here) with little leafs. I breed it myself,... 5 years ago i started with crossing tomatoes and this is the result. |

Angelo, nice to see you back. Glad to here about your successful grow out last year. If you decide to release "Thaisa" I know clara and I would definitely like to grow it here and Andrey and Tania as well. Be well, Ami

I'd like to try it as well Angelo when you release it.
But I wanted to ask you about the variety Couilles de Taureau which Reinhard got from you and I'm getting from him along with some other varieties b'c I sent him what he asked for for the 2009 season so I get the same number of varieties back to me. We've been doing this for many years now. French is not a language I know well and someone has translated that name to Bull's B-lls and is that an appropriate translation to English? There is a variety called Bull Sac. And if sac=b_lls, well you see where I'm going here. I'm curious to know where you got it from? I know Tania has it but I wanted it as well so that if it turns out to be a good one I could offer seeds in my next seed offer online here at TVille and it was on Reinhard's 2008 growout list and since I was selecting other varieties from that list I though why not get it from that list.

hahahahaha yes that's true Carolyn
The translation of Couilles de Taureau is appropriate, but a little strange i think :p I've got the tomato from a French friend who also collects tomatoes. |

I got some from Tania to grow out so I am glad to get the translation as well. BB's it is (sounds much lovelier in French...)

I'm a big fan of sweet cherry tomatoes - love to take them to work with me to snack on during the spring and summer months.. so if you are willing to share with me, I would gladly give them a try in my garden

I've been thinking,...
If i introduce "Thaisa", do i have to registrate the tomato somewhere? Greets Angelo |

If I think of all the varieties I've received of OP tomato varieties from Europe and elsewhere, there's been no registration at all of any of them with anyone. It's just been tomato passionate folks exchanging varieties among themselves. And even those places in Europe where OP varieties are sold, such as Manfred who sells seeds off Reinhard's website, don't have to register anything as far as I know. But you have lots of tomato contacts in Europe and if you want to be sure, why not e-mail Reinhard, for example, and check with him. And it shouldn't make any difference that you developed this variety. Look at Reinhard with his Sungold Select, Sungold Select II and now Big Sungold Select. I know Dominique was upset with some rulings and changed Terre de Semences ( my bad spelling, sorry) to Kokopelli, but I'm not exactly sure what the specific reasons were for doing that. And I can't remember if St Marthe is still in buiness either, for I used to get seeds from both St. Marthe and Terre de Semences quite a few years ago.
