Under the Lights

Here's some pictures of my seedling grow out today. First 2 show the whole setup with the second picture showing my fan assembly sitting on the chair. Next 3 are the flats shown individually and the last one is my two stands bolted to wood platforms with wheels so I can spin them every day so they get even light. Also pictured are the 4" cowpots which will be their final home till I plant them, pot and plant to their final resting place. Ami

Great set up, we would all love to be that lucky.

Nice healthy looking plants too. I have made several mistakes this year

-----but I have learned from those mistakes. (my first year to plant seeds). You guys are so lucky you can build and fix everything--I'm not very handy with tools.
When will you plant out in Germany?

Texas weather isn't exactly cooperating; lots of rain,low 40's at night,light frost last week and a frost is predicted for next week.
Kat's plants are 3 times the size of mine. l guess I can't blame the weather for everything she lives just down the road.

everybody makes mistakes from time to time veggie babe, that's human ;-) We try to do our best and sometimes in doing so we still mess stuff up ;-)
I was a little bit to eager to give the seeds a good start this year that I thought : "they would like an extra degree in the propagator". And did they like that extra degree, they jump-start-germinated and in two days where 10 cm high. So in my notations for the season 2009 my grand grand children can read : "23°C is an absolute no-no" (but probably in dutch ;-) )

One thing not to do: when filling seed-starting cells or little pots
or whatever, do not pack the seed-starting mix in there with
your thumb and then put the seeds in (compresses out air space
and they don't grow nearly as well, because too much of the
minimal energy that they brought with them in their seed coats
is going into trying to grow roots).

Just fill it loosely. It will pack down on its own from watering,
top or bottom, but not nearly as tightly, and the seedlings
will grow faster and have more energy left over for growing
that first set of true leaves.

I swear that mine were permiscuous and got together multiplying while they were shut it the garage for 2 days. I have been giving the things away forever.

Thanks for the help seperating them Neva! I think I am going to stand on a street corner and throw them into passing cars. Have to get rid of them by Monday

vbabe, plant out is normally the second week in May but sometimes we can go as early as 1 May. If you have a greenhouse you can start earlier.
Kat, I've been growing tomatoes seriously about three years. I've had vege gardens on and off for the last 30 years here in Germany. Mostly surrogate gardens at different locations. Ami
