I'm a week away from making my final selection of plants to go into my containers.
Here are the categories for the "undecided" plants: Pink PL beefsteaks Brandywine, Sudduth's Strain Julia Child Lithuanian Mrs. Benson Stump of the World All-purpose and canning types Campbell 1327 Delmar Picardy Saint Pierre Santa Clara Canner Paste types Andes Rinaldo Ernesto Heidi Hungarian Italian Cherry types Sungold Hybrid Sweet Baby Girl Hybrid Could you please help me choose? Thanks in advance. GTG |

Right off the top of my head, I can eliminate Julia Child and Mrs. Benson.....nothing wrong with them, but I like Stump and Sudduth a lot more and have heard Lithuanian is very good (haven't grown that one).

GTG,
I need some clarification. My assumption from the way you wrote is that you have other inground plants and these are for containers only. If that's true, then 1.how can I chose without knowing what you have inground? 2.How can I chose not knowing how many containers you have? 3.How can I chose not knowing what YOUR main interest is? Ja, maybe picky, but why would I chose a large pink PL if you already have plenty of those inground? Same for the others.

Catntree,
Thanks for the feedback. Carolyn, My constraints: 1. I have no "in-ground" plants. All are in containers. 2. I'm limited to about 24 containers (7 to 15 gallons in capacity). 3. My main interest is to have about 3 good representative varieties in each stated category. P.S. Cherries aren't that important, I've already chosen a couple I like. Hungarian Italian is a "must have" and I feel compelled to grow out Ernesto and Rinaldo since they aren't commercially available, so they are "must have" varieties also. Thanks again, GTG |

Here are the categories for the "undecided" plants:
OK, I'm starring the ones I'd chose and also indicating which ones I have and haven't grown and I've grown all the ones I'm starring. Pink PL beefsteaks *Brandywine, Sudduth's Strain Julia Child, haven't grown *Lithuanian Mrs. Benson, have grown *Stump of the World All-purpose and canning types Campbell 1327, have grown Delmar , haven't grown *Picardy *Saint Pierre *Santa Clara Canner, altho I really do not see this as that useful a canner and there are others that I think are more all purpose. yes, it was the variety that started the canning industry in CA, along with Diener, a selection of SCC, but that was long ago, even tho I like the variety otherwise. Paste types Andes, haven't grown Rinaldo , didn't live to adulthood Ernesto , got few fruits, bad year *Heidi Hungarian Italian, grew so long ago I can't remember You said you already have chosen your cherry tomatoes, so nothing starred. Cherry types Sungold Hybrid Sweet Baby Girl Hybrid Could you please help me choose? Thanks in advance. GTG

Haven't grown any on your list.
However, please remember, Earl thinks VERY highly of Picardy...must be a reason!!!
