Looks like you had a good year. Man those Giant Belgiums sure must like it better up there than down here in Alabama. I had 2 plants that made a total of 2 relatively small tomatoes. My 1st Prizes averaged over 30 and my Steak Sandwich made close to 100 and they still have tomatoes on them though not very big. I wish I had kept a count like you did; but I am too disorganized. This was my best year for tomatoes in over 30 years of growing them. My big numbers have come from hybrids with only one heirloom,Marianna's Peace producing in decent numbers. I usually prefer the taste of the heirlooms and plan to grow many more varieties next year to see if I can find a few more that do well down hear with our heat, humidity and disease.

The Steak Sandwich in particular were a lot smaller then I expected. Were your's sort of pinkish red? I also had only a few big Giant Belgium. My First Prizes were decent though. My biggest were Mt. Pride and Yoder's German Yellow. CECIL

Funny you asked that about Steak Sandwich; this year they had a reddish orange tint while last year they were pinkish and from same seed packet. This year they were smaller but I planted this year much earlier. My largest tomatoes were a couple of Omars Lebanese and Brandy Boy both had some near 2 lbs. I have never grown a yellow tomato because the ones I have tasted in the past were just too bland though I wouldn't mind trying one if I found a disease resistant variety that also had a little "bite". I am intrigued by the Mountain varieties but they are usually described as firm and in the past when I have planted varieties with that description they have tended to be bland and a bit dry for my taste. How did Mt. Pride taste?
The ones that tasted best to me were Paul Robeson, Brandy Boy, Small Fry (cherry), and Marianna's Peace. Bill |

There was one Hybrid that I saw on the internet Sirloiner but haven't found a source for this tomato. Wondered how it would do in partial shade in zone 7.
