Skin color of Brad's Black Heart?

I thought it was orange, is it colorless? In other words is it a red black or a pink black? Thanks.

Vince, I never checked the epidermis on it when I grew it but it looked to me like a red/black and Brad has says that he found it in a patch of several thousand Black Krims at a nearby farm and Black Krim is a red/black, so..........

Just confirming. The reason I ask is I am seeing purples(pink/blacks) in the porky cross(Dwarf project) at the F1 stage. And All purples in the F2 Dwarf stage. Strange. If one desired it should be easy to get some non-dwarf purple hearts out of our seed stock.

As I said, I didn't check the epidermis, good thing you did Suze. I was just going on the overall color which was not what I'd expect for a pink/black such as Cherokee Purple or Black from Tula, for instance.


Suze, do you and others in the high heat climates get an amber blush with ARGG for instance? Well I remember that Craig L was not getting that amber blush in Raleigh, sent seeds to me and to his friend Jeff and both of us did.

And there are other varieties that seem to be variable in color in the higher as opposed to the lower gardening zones. I remember at the time wondering if temperature could influence gene expression of the two epidermis genes.
