need info about variety Ahmet
I got a variety called Ahmet in a trade last winter. I just tried to find info about it on Tatianas site but it's not listed. I Googled it but didn't get anything there either.
Mainly I just wanted to know if what I grew was what it's supposed to be. A couple of the varieties I got in trades were not what they should have been and a few were all mixed up stuff. This is not a knock on traders tho as some seeds I purchased were also not what they should have been. I'm just trying to verify what I have before I send seeds out to others. Carol |

Indet, rugose leaf, high yield of whitish green going to red cherry size fruits in clusters of 8-12, excellent fresh sweet/tart flavor, midseason, from Chinese non-CV, from Taiwan. The above description from our own Andrey, from Minsk, Belarus who first listed it for 2009. With all the varieties you grow and all the trades you do we've got to get you interested in becoming an SSE member.

Carolyn,
I figured you would know about a variety not in Tatianas list. Your description sounds like that is probably what I grew, tho it was sent to me just as "Ahmet". I just wanted to be sure it was supposed to be a cherry. Since you mentioned Andrey, I looked in my book to see who sent it to me and it was Andrey. It's possible that I shortened the name in my notes, but I have been trying to write everything exactly as I have been getting them. BTW, I didn't know where to post about the seeds I got from you this spring. I had great luck with Sherrill, Dr Carolyn Pink, Hermans Special and Orange Minsk. I'll have to find the picks I took and post them for you. The other 2 I got must have died in the greenhouse as they never got to the field. I did join SSE just about 2 weeks ago. I listed about a dozen varieties so far. I wanted to list more, but I'm still swamped with my processing chores. Thanks, Carol |

There was a thread here where folks were posting feedback about the varieties they got in my latest seed offer, but I'm so glad that what you got worked out well for you. Finally, I do think that you'll find joining SSE will be really helpful to you and if any blurbs refer to a previous Yearbook please remember I have all of them from 1975 to the present except for the 1982 one. But they're not in order as on the floor to the left of my computer along with other reference material. However the online version will also have info that goes way back as well. So far I just haven't gotten a temporary password to access the online so I'll go with my paper one since that I can curl up with when the wind and snow blow, but with a computer I can't and I hate staring at screens, I really do. Just let me turn the pages on a seed catalog, novel, magazine or Yearbook, etc.; that I like.

Andrey's seeed pack did have a little blurb in it. I'll have to look for it. I didn't throw out any of the stuff I got last year.
I think what happened is there may have been a dash (-) between the Ahmet and Taiwanese and I thought it read "Taiwanese non CV", not that "Taiwanese" was part of the name. Yes I hope I will be able to use the book for better info too. I know I don't like trying to find the info on the net either if there is a book somewhere around. And my books are all over the house, everywhere, not on the shelves at all. They do get lost from time to time too. My house is a mess. I need to get more organized some day. I guess I missed the thread about your seeds from last year. Carol Last edited by Wi-sunflower; November 11, 2009 at 11:05 PM. Reason: added thought |

Hi Carol!
I've sent you Ahmet Taiwanese tomato seeds and there are some misreadings on my stickers with names and short descriptions which I put in zip lock packs because I use hand writing in English and my English letters are written not always the way all of you used to do this just because I'm Russian and used to write in English mainly on PC here ;-) As for this variety I like it very much just because of its great well balanced taste and unusual (for me) indeterminate growing habit for tomato plant with rugose foliage.

Andrey,
don't apologise, at least you are able to comunicate in more than 1 language and quite well from what I've read here. Most Americans can barely comunicate well in 1 language - English. Personally I can sort of get by in very broken Spanish with my workers, but I can't write it very well at all. And Spanish uses the same alphabet as English. Russian is something else to those of us only vagely familiar with it. If I look at your note again I will probably understand what it means now that I know what to look for. And yes I liked that tomato too. it was productive for me tho late due to our crummy summer. Carol |
