Bulk Seed Sharing
I used to have a friend that used to split bulk seeds with me.
I would buy so many and he would buy others. We would then meet for a long lunch in OC Calif and divi them up. Since he moved out of the area he has just been buying plants etc. PLEASE PM IF INTERESTED Looking for someone else who might be interested in doing this as for the past few years I have just been buying single packets and that doesn't lend to seed trading much. Would really like to find someone interested to cut costs and expand into more varieties. Thanks Dennis PLEASE PM IF INTERESTED At present this is the list of full packet single packet seeds I bought commercially for the year. Hi Dennis,
How many seeds of a particular variety would you be looking for. I have a number of commercial seed purchases I could split (none of them are truly "bulk" purchases0, as well as a number of saved varieties in larger quantities. Let me know thanks. KD |

200, 250, 500, 1000 try to keep price to $2-$6 per split or $6-$12 per bulk - someplaces have great price on 6 or so but not on others because of their crop for the year or popularity
idealy if I have 100 seeds I can plant for me and have several left to trade - would be nice - do you have any favorite sites? of course OP Thanks Dennis |

minimum would be 50 - reliable commercial vendor only as I am going to grow plants for friends etc want them to be true
I am still buying seeds for this season and could buy extra seed of any varieties you are looking for - unless I already bought them - 25-50 usually in seed pkt but could buy more if needed so far as saved varieties I would be willing to buy (maybe bulk) some commercial seeds varieties you want and qty interested in (let me know names and what and seed companies you are comfortable with) and trade for varieties of yours you saved that I might want of yours - let me know what site you used for seeds that were commmercially purchased and what saved seeds that you want to trade I do not seed save - and it is a shame because my relatives from Mo Ark Kansas Iowa Pa and an uncle that did agr work for Central and So American countires used to send me seeds - no longer living and sources dried up - just sent email to a cousin who may be able to find other cousins or their kids that kept with the seed saving tradition Thanks Dennis |

Dennis,
I have to check my stash and will get back to you, but I probably have more than enough of some varieties, without having to purchase commercial ones, to send you 25+ if you want. But I'm also considering making some online purchases of bulk seeds in order to use some for trading/sharing purposes. I'll also be in the States from the 21st to at least the 28th, so could mail some to you then. Let me know what you think. Zana |

All postings should be in the context of arranging items for trade. An exception would be when members conduct offers for the benefit of other members. The trading forums are not to be used to ask for free seeds or plant materials for postage/SASE or to offer to buy or sell said items.
***** From the guidelines for the Seed Exchange Forum. Notice the last bit about the Forums NOT to be used to offer to buy or sell items. Trading seeds for personal use only, not commercial large amounts, but no selling or buying. It might be a good idea if folks haven't done it to read the sticky for the Forum where other guidelines are psoted as well. Dennis, years ago my friend Craig LeHoullier and I agreed to buy all the varieties that Bill McDorman brought back from Siberia. He bought half of them, I bought the other half and then we split the contents of each pack and that worked well. This whole buisiness of buying and selling seeds here has come up before which is why the guidelines were tweaked and rewritten to prohibit that. If you have any questions about it you might like to check with Mischka who wrote the guidelines.

I don't have any objection if folks want to buy tomato seed in bulk and split quantities, etc., but the Seed Exchange forums should NOT be used for organizing/soliciting members to participate in splitting/buying seeds, nor should they be used to post any type of public offer to split/sell seeds...bulk or otherwise.
You are more than welcome to use the PM system here to further discuss your current plans privately amongst yourselves. Thank you for your future cooperation and understanding.

My apologies for misusing the forum. You're right, I should have remembered that prohibition. Mea culpa.

Since you've already started making plans in this thread, I've moved it to another forum so that you can continue to do so within it... fair enough?

Fair enough but I still don't know where to let people know I am interested in doing this
As Carolyn mentioned "Dennis, years ago my friend Craig LeHoullier and I agreed to buy all the varieties that Bill McDorman brought back from Siberia. He bought half of them, I bought the other half and then we split the contents of each pack and that worked well." This is what I used too do with my local friend so we had extra seeds to give plants to friends and seeds to share Where and how should I post this?? Thanks Dennis |
