Does anyone use the Farmers Almanac anymore for gardening (vegetables)

Just kinda wondered if anyone use the Farmers Almanac to determine their planting times, etc...

Yep - I plant by the moon as my farming parents, grandparents and their ancestors did before me. We swear by it.

I also found Tomatoville after reading last years article about the guy that raises all the tomatoes and mails seeds all over. I think he frequents here too. We're blessed to have guys like that around.

I SHUDDERED when they said the optimal time to plant tomato seeds was FEBRUARY 26th-28th!!!! Our last frost date is around May 18th-20th.

I really think it depends on where you live, if they had a regional one maybe that would be ok, but here we need to plant out at least my mid Feb-1st of March.

I wonder if back when it was always used by farmers if a lot of farmers lost their crops when they were told to plant but the frosts in there area weren't over.

Back in the good old days farmers used common judgment in reading the Almanac. If your plant out date is 4/15(last frost) they used feb moon to start seed. If plant out date was may they used same moon IN APIRIL AS last of fEB=1ST. OF MARCH as SEED START date. Those duimp old farmers had good common judgment.(I believe). Good Luck Bill
