Almost 90! May 2010 in Michigan

Wow, I don't remember the temps getting this high this early in the year. We joke here in Michigan that one day you turn off the furnace and the next day turn on the A/C......but that is pretty true this year so far!

Got about 50 tomatoes planted with about another dozen or so to go.....just in one day they have shot up! Looks like a great start to 2010 so far.

How is everyone else faring with regard to May weather?

Heat is coming on down here in South Texas. We were blessed however with cooler temps this spring that seemed to hang on longer than usual. I am thankful for that as I am having a decent year tomato wise.

Ditto what duajones said here in lower Alabama. As soon as our heat and humidity moved in so did the pests and diseases. We will now be looking forward to those cooler days when it only gets to 90. Good luck this year.

No 100 degree days in April or May, and the cold for us held on longer this year. I am getting some fruit set, but also blossom drop. I think the wind may be drying my plants more than I think. Temps have been okay thus far.

Was 97 here today about 90 for me since I am in the middle of lake minnetonka plants seem to be doing fine now is the question of when to water 2 of the 12 container plants look like they might have plenty of water but watered them all before I saw the signs of leaf roll will have to keep an eye on them. I am not used to this much heat when they are this small 2 foot for the biggest so I might be a little heavy on the water so will give it a day or two to see how they respond.

Today was a scorcher for northern michigan. I'm in the Process of hardening off roughly 100 plants and this heat definitely cought them by surprise. Thank God for shade.

i am glad the garden is finally dry enough to get a roto tiller in so i can till in all the leaves i put on in the fall. i'm getting horse manure tomorrow from a neighbor. i have 2 days off to get things done before leaving for my fishing trip on friday. probably won't get much planting done until i get back. my wife will have instructions on keeping everything alive. crazy busy time about to begin.

almost 90 today with very high humidity and 40 mph winds - in other words NASTY. Last Thursday the high was 58 w/ 40 mph winds. The tommies in the ground are growing well the last 3 days. Asparagus is finished, rhubarb is unbelieveable-leaves are 2 feet across at least. Peas are flowering. Piegirl

Well, I guess we temporarily sent all of you our heat. Yesterday it was 77 and today it was low 80's in PHOENIX!! It was actually chilly here this morning. We have hit our first 100, but only for a day. Not holding my breath because I KNOW what is just around the corner...

It hit about 90 here in central MN. I got my tomatoes planted last Thurs. and Fri. Was quite windy here as well. Well above average temps. forcasted for the next 5 days or so. This should get my tomatoes off to a good start.

Our high in San Jose hit 62 degrees today. Rest of week it looks like rain and cold weather in the low 60s. I am in Long Island tonight where it is MUCH warmer - - go figure.

If I didn't look at the calendar, I'd've thought we were heading back into winter (SF bay area). Yesterday morning there was a nip in the air. This week it'll get into the 60s in the daytime and the low 40s at night, with afternoon winds, and some rain expected every day for the rest of the week.

I'm still waiting for nighttime temperatures to warm up a bit so I can plant beans. A few days ago I got some edamame seeds with instructions to plant when soil temperatures hit 65F!

My tomatoes are either in walls-o-water or protected with plastic-wrapped cages. Usually I remove the protection by the end of May, but it doesn't look like it'll be warm enough this year.

Oh well, at least I have lots of kale growing. My kale gets purpler (and sweeter) with cooler weather, and I noticed it's turning purpler again.

In Sioux Falls South Dakota, the temps hit 91 and the storm that rolled in late last night had wind gusts up to 72 miles an hour on the west edge of town. Rain gauge reads .30 of an inch. Garden looks fine this morning. Over 40 heirlooms still standing. First to bloom for me is VB Russia, and of course the Black Cherry.

great start here in MI....I have cool varieties that went in April 30...almost a month earlier than some years.
