My 2010 Plant out
Finally got my containers planted. I used this year for my aggregate a 3-1-1 mix of a commercially made geranium mix thats 85% white peat with coir and some slow release ferts. PH of this mix is 5.5-6.5. The other two parts were pine bark fines and perlite. To this mix I added lime, organic ferts and powdered volcanic rock for the Micro's.
For the root dip I used a mixture of Mycogrow, Actinovate, Biota Max and Biostart "Defensor" and "Rhizoboost" mixed in water. I'll post a link to the last 2 products. As I used Dot Pots and Cow Pot's I just dipped the pot with plant in the solution, let drain and plant. Here is the link to Biostart and some pictures. What a nice garden located in such an idyllic locale; rolling hills, stands of trees.... looks like a postcard picture of a happy vacation spot.

Nice setup, and beautiful countryside in Germany. I love those types of houses.

Looking good, Ted. Are those containers (on the fenceline) new or some old ones with a waterjacket or some other kind of dressup??

Good going Ami. I think you are going to be pleased with your new Combo Mix. I am experimenting with increasing the Bark Fines ratio to a 2:2:1 Combo Mix in a few 'Tainers this year. Your Tomaten Dunger is in one such 'Tainer and it is looking VERY promising.

You're in such a beautiful spot, Ami. All your containers are so neat. My Actinovate arrived today and I was able to buy Excel-LG at a local store (couldn't bring myself to buy copper and Daconil). Thought I was all set until I read this post! Let us know what you think of the new products you're trying, ok?

Ted, the containers you reference to I bought on sale as they were dark blue. So to keep them from heating up in the sun I put a styrofoam collar around them with double sided carpet tape. The styrofoam comes in rolls and is used as a base for laminate flooring.
Ray, I think this combo mix is going to work out just fine and I like the texture of it. Tomaten dunger was one of two ferts I used as the other was a bio mix that looks like rabbit food. I have some EM-1 on order that I'm going to use as a drench later on. kath, good stuff. Use your actinovate as a soil drench for your plants and use the rest as a foliar along with your Exel LG. Alternate your Actinovate/Exel foliar applications but you can use them together is you so desire. Ami

tony, I planted the surrogate garden at work yesterday. Right now the 78 foot dish that sits behind it is getting it's periodic cleaning and is in what I call the bird bath postion (pointing straight Up) like you would see on the equator which is normal there. I'll post some pictures later this week. Ami

Ami, what is the purpose of the white cloth you have draped around your containers in the first two pictures?

That is garden fleece which they use as row covers as well. Here they sew it together to form a tube and sell it in 10 meter lengths. I cut 1 meter sections and then pull it down over the cages to to protect the plants from wind, cold, rain and direct sunlight till the plants get established which takes about 2 weeks. I use a regular hand stapler to attach them to the cage. Ami

Ami, as always: Your garden looks so beautiful! And you are way ahead of me, because just at the moment, my back is aching so much - not at the right moment! Last weekend, I couldn't manage what I wanted, but I'm hoping to get at least the PL varieties which are already strong into the soil, but for doing so, I have to dig the garden and that's a problem. clara
