juanita norte
Tom? anybody? Can I get a basic description of Juanita Norte (white? yellow? red?. I could find nothing googling it... lots of hits for Juanita and Norte, but none having to do with taters. It is one of my better growing plants and since I have my mad scientist hat on I may want to cross it with something.

Juanita Norte is a brand new variety created last year from the cross of
Juan Valdez and Norte Azul July 28, 2005. It was a strong seedling, the best of nine that had the number 6531309. It started out life in a raised bed in Lake City. Lake City is the northeast corner of Seattle, centered along Lake City Way. I sent this clone out because of the vigor and Late blight reisistance, coming nearly all form the Juan Valdez clone. Juan Valdez was a first year seedling tuber planted near Conway, WA June 2004. The female parent was Juanita, a red potato from Mexico that has good blight resistance. Juanita is a cross of LOMAN x ANITA. The male parent of Juan Valdez is B0767-2, an experimental clone that had good blight resistance in the past. Here is a quote about it... Quote:
The male parent of Juanita Norte was Norte Azul. Norte Azul was a first year seedling in 2005 and was a vigorous blue potato with slighly blue flesh. Norte Azul has pink rot resistance from the mother Nordic October and blue skin and flesh from Azul Toro. Nordic October is a cross made in 1998 between NorDonna and Red October. Azul Toro is a cross between Negro y Azul and Kern Toro. The cross (Juanita Norte) was named honoring the parental direction of the cross and to indicate that here was a Juanita type adapted to the North. It has red skin, and slightly red flesh. It is outstanding for blight resistance and vigor. Now you can Google Juanita Norte... Tom Wagner |

Sounds good. Some of my blues aren't looking so hot so this one will be useful.
