How to kill a tomato plant

Well, it's getting late in the season and I have these tomato plants left over with no where to go. I can't bring myself to destroying them after babying them so long. I remember terminating a dog many years ago--never again. I hear that the chicken hearted put cats in a bag and throw them in the river. Maybe I could try that. Then there are those that take a dog out to the country and leave it with the hope that it is adopted to a good home. Wonder if I place them out in the country in the road if some one would pick them up? I know! I will place them out front with a big sign saying "FREE". People will take anything if its free.

Gently escort them to your compost pile, lovingly nestle them into the compost, and tell them you'll see them again soon, in a slightly different form.

lol you guys are funny! I sent my husband to his office with the last 16 plants I had left over and they all went in a day. I had a LOT this year. It was my first year growing from seed so I totally over estimated how many would survive. lol I ended up with over 35 to give away. Luckily I have neighbors more than willing to take some. The rest went to work with the husband.

You may want to try freecycle. People are always willing to take things off your hands on that site.

Last year (my first to grow from seed) I killed about 25 plants by watering them too much. I had a solemn ceremony and tilled them into the garden.

This year, I've got about 140 plants in the garden. I may have given away 100 or more to friends and neighbors. I've still got about 20 to 30 seedlings to dispose of. All in all it's been a great year. The main crop is beginning to ripen and I'm excited as I've never tasted the vast majority of the maters I've planted.

Life is good.

Put them in a box, label them, take them to work/local grocery store/mall/park/other place where people congregate, and put a sign on them that says free to a good home. They'll go quick! Or post on craigslist, and folks will come and pick them up!

I've heard that if you want to get rid of something, you should put it out by the road with a "For Sale" sign on it and it will mysteriously vanish by morning.

After giving all I could to neighbors and friends I asked my postman if he wanted some and then the word spread. I gave away several hundred this past season and hopefully I will do better in my planning next year when I start my seed. Yeah, right!

We had around 75 yesterday morning and a quick add on the local yahoo group free cycle took care of those in no time. I had about 35 emails within a couple of hours and had a blast meeting people and sharing tomatoes with them. Always good to see them go home with people who are excited to have them. Our weather here this spring has been crappy and so many lost a lot of their plants that were out earlier and were so appreciative to have another chance for their garden this year.

Follow up:
Sat morning I placed a sigh on the sidwalk saying
"FREE tomato plants"
It worked, and the extras are all gone.
The lady that took the lst ones was having a yard sale the same day and I wonder it they got re-sold. I don't care, just so they found a home.

More than likely...if she is anything like my neighbor lol. She hits up everyone's garbage AND the donation box across the road and resells everything in her yard sales. grrrrr
