Default finally - the 1st ripe one

The latest in a number of years, but just chomped down a luscious Jet Star, bit dinged and dented from a June hail, but couldn't bring myself to remove it since she was the largest greenie I had. Also enjoyed my first Burpee Early Pride cuke - thank you Johnbro for sharing your last two seeds. Excellent - no bitterness, sweet great flavor and I also had my second mini white cuke. Noticed 6-7 more toms beginning to turn. The season is on!!!! piegirl, wiping tomato juice from my chin.

My first ripe ones were 4 little Matt's Wild Cherries - ate them in the garden this afternoon. Yummm! Can't wait for the other 58 plants (all different varieties) to start blushing...

I have a number of plants ripening now. It seems to me they are ripening while the fruit are still kind of small. I wonder if that could have been caused by the tremendous heat we have been having. The ones I have tasted were very good, just kind of small.

Actually I was very surprised at how very good the Moreton tomato was, never had one before. Excellent for a hybrid.

Hopefully the heat will break so they get a big larger before they ripen. Anyway, I am enjoying it.

Congrats Denise, dont eat them all before our fest this year. What date are we looking at this year?

I have a couple of super souix's that should wait until saturday, but they are taunting me sitting on the counter. Tomatoes are evil I tell you.

Finally! 2 small Sun Sugar F1 were enjoyed yesterday - probably should have waited another day, but it's been a long time for a fresh tomato. Should have a couple of ripe Sweet Tumblers in a day or two. Lots of green ones waiting in the wings. I do have a concern though; there are so many forest fires currently it seems that half the province is burning. The smoke is very thick and even bits of falling ash, even though the nearest fire is 30 or 40 miles distant. Perhaps it won't be just the black tomatoes that will have that elusive "smoky" taste this year...

I also had my first ripe tomatoes this week! First to ripen was Stupice but the flavor wasn't great. Sun Sugar F1 had a couple of sweet candy orbs for me that I just popped right into my mouth. Delicious!

I envy those of you who live in tropical climate just for the fact that you get tomatoes so early and have such a long season! That being said, I personally melt in all that heat and I love the weather we are having with temps in the 70's and 80's during the day and dropping into the 50's and 60's at night.

Here in the Northwest, it takes some effort to grow tomatoes compared to how easy it is for us to grow other veggies.

Just had my first Cherokee Purple of the season. I will have to say this was the very best cp I have ever eaten. Perfection in coloring, texture and the flavor was off the charts. I have grown cp for a number of years and this is the very best - EVER. This was a seedling I purchased at a local greenhouse for $1. Their first year growing cp. Are there different strains? Usually I buy a Chef Jeff plant. piegirl
