Making a list early for 2011
My eyes are bloodshot from reading so much about different tomato taste and opinions. I am obsessed (bad) with this new hobby of mine I will be growing 6 plants next year. I live alone and will give most of them away to friends and family. I do not cook or
"can" at all.......hahahahaha. I will grow 6 plants in Rays Earthtainers. Here is the list that I have so far from my readings: Sun Gold Cherokee Purple Earl's Faux Goose Creek Marianna's Peace and the 6th one could be a Paul Robeson or a Big Beef plant? I am looking for medium to larger sweet and juicy fruits (heirlooms) that would flourish in Michigan's climate. Any other ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated .... >>>>>>>>>>> Talon

Maybe Pineapple? I'd throw a JD's in there for sure, though.

That sounds like a very good list to me. You could do Big Beef or Jet Star.

I would go Hawaiin pineapple or J.D special c-tex too. There is a great rich tomato that someone here turned me on too and it's name is Sherrill. It is so rich I will never be without it in my garden.

The question I have...why limit it to six? Wouldn't 12 be twice the fun? And 24 twice the fun of 12...and....

But I've got about 40 plants our there anyway. You must at least make some fresh salads so how about growing at least a second cherry in addition to Sungold F1? I hesitate to even make some suggestions since you said above that reading all these varieties made your eyes bloodshot.

I think you might need a good red in your 6 plants I have NAR growing this year taste test coming but have heard good things about Chapman as well. Cowlicks granted was my first BLT tomato of the season but it was very very good if the rest taste like the first one it will me my top choice in my 5 years of growing and is a pink.

I did read it all the first time. I live alone too, give most away, don't cook either, and have about 60 this year with another 8-10 ready to plant for a fall crop. You just can't get enough of a good thing!
I predict your obsessions will outgrow 6 plants for 2011! DS
