8. Best sauce tomato All of the above but Black Krim and Brandywine make a great combo
9. Best potato leafed tomato-Brandywine Suddeth
10. Best bi colored tomato-Pineapple (Even my tomato hating daughter likes this one.
11. Best yellow- Lillian's Yellow Heirloom and Tom's Yellow Wonder. Both yellow but great in different ways.
Remember I am only a few years in... not decades like others but I know a great pasta sauce when I taste it. Also Family is addicted to Annie's Salsa

8. Best Sauce? Sherrill

thought there was an 11 and then checked and saw none! dang my eyes are getting bad!! lol
11. Best Gold? KBX (first was beyong fantastic then lost plant!, second was only good off another plant.) Orange Minsk has been consistently early and pumping out the sweetest taste I have ever had and I heard they are not noted for being that sweet. Would love some feedback on that and also Jaune Flamme? Flamme has very thick skin here in Florida which ruins the great taste it has. Can't wait for Bulgarian Triumph and Gigant Palina to ripen so I can compare flavors of the small types.

I found this old thread, and thought I would bring back up. I am growing Stump of the world for the first time, and did a google search "Stump of the World Tomatoville", and found this thread. I will pick my first SOTW tomato any day now...can't wait

1. Best tasting tomato-Brandywine Sudduth, or Earls Faux
2. Best cherry tomato- Sungold
3. Best green when ripe tomato-never grown
4. Best huge tomato- Cherokee Purple
4b. Best sandwich, or hamburger tomato-Cherokee Purple
4c. Best salad tomato-Kosovo
5. Best early tomato- quit growing early tomato's
6. Best black tomato- Cherokee Purple, or Indian Stipe
7. Best heart shaped tomato- Kosovo
8. Best sauce tomato- All of the above
9. Best potato leafed tomato-Brandywine Sudduth
10. Best bi colored tomato-never grown
11. Best Orange -never grown
12 Best Yellow - never grown
13 Best White - never grown

I also came across this description from Camo on another forum...

"The one I tested today was smaller than most weighing only 8 1/4 oz. or 234 grams. It may not have been that large in size, but it was humungous in taste. Like most Pink Brandywines, (Camo's favorites), it has very thin skin, and very little core. It's firm pink flesh is a tomato lovers dream, it has a well balanced taste that makes me wonder how I forgot to grow it the last few years. This tomato doesn't even need salt or perhaps I should say, salt doesn't make a great difference when tasting. Now adding the bear to the mix does! A little Zatarain's with this tomato and you'd think you died and gone to heaven. I almost felt like I could sense Ben, smiling down at me saying, "What do you think of that one?"

So, which brandywine was Camo talking about in that paragraph? If memory serves me right, I believe that was his "Cowlicks Brandywine" he found at a local nursery. And Camo always tests the taste of tomatoes by adding a little Zatarain's.

Looking at your list, I can see that you have a lot of happy moments in your future as you grow and taste the ones you marked "never grown". I'm growing Camo's "Cowlicks BW" this year, along with 187 other varieties. Gonna be busy this time out.

Ted...I believe he was describing SOTW...........maybe I'm wrong...

"Stump of the World
Let me start off by saying, I've grown this variety in the past, probably before I started doing taste tests a couple years ago. I'm not sure why I stopped growing it but I believe it was during the Great Brandywine search, where I was growing every type of Brandywine I could find. (this predated the Black tomato search).
So thanks to Darlene once again, it's back in Camo gardens. For those unfamiliar with this Pink Beefsteak type tomato, it's one of the late, legendary tomato grower, Ben Quisenberry's favorites!
